The alarm sounds! El Nino or reappearance! Next ye

Scientists from the British Meteorological Office recently warned that the El Ni ñ o phenomenon that is expected to reappear later in 2023 will aggravate the global extreme weather events, and 2024 may become the hottest year since the temperature record.

The new model of the British Meteorological Office shows that the La Ni ñ a phenomenon, which has lasted for three years, will end in March this year. It is likely to enter the El Ni ñ o model later in the second half of the year. The global temperature in 2023 will be higher than that in 2022. However, the heating effect of the El Ni ñ o phenomenon will take several months to feel, which means that it is more likely to set a new global record for the highest temperature in 2024.

The British Meteorological Office said that the global shift to the El Ni ñ o climate model could lead to global warming exceeding 1.5 degrees Celsius for the first time in 2024. In other words, the global average temperature in 2024 may rise by 1.5 degrees Celsius than before industrialization. So far, the greenhouse gases emitted by human activities have increased the global average temperature by about 1.2 degrees Celsius.

El Ni ñ o and La Ni ñ a are terms used to describe the fluctuations of the Earth's climate system caused by the changes in the equatorial Pacific sea surface temperature. When the sea surface temperature in the eastern equatorial Pacific is 0.5 ℃ higher than the long-term average, the El Ni ñ o phenomenon will be formed. On the contrary, when the sea surface temperature in the East Pacific continues to be lower than the average level, La Nina phenomenon will occur. Both of these phenomena will cause changes in global weather patterns. Due to the abnormal temperature rise caused by the El Ni ñ o event, the global average temperature will also temporarily increase.

However, up to now, the scale of the possible El Ni ñ o phenomenon this year is not clear, and scientists say that the situation may become clearer by June this year. Some researchers warn that it is too early to judge the intensity of El Nino.
