According to the news on November 27, a precious coin hoard was found in Jianhu County, Yancheng, Jiangsu Province. After mining, the ancient coins initially found weigh at least 1.5 tons.

It is understood that the location of the coin cellar remains is Shuangdun Village, Gangxi Town, Jianhu County, Yancheng. At the beginning, the local villagers accidentally found several coins exposed to the ground, and found that the characters on them were still clear, but they should be a long time ago.

After contacting the local cultural relics department, the staff found that this may be an ancient cellar site, and there should be a lot of precious items underground.

Therefore, the area was quickly blocked, and the local department said to the outside world that it was hoped that people would not pick up coins without permission, let alone keep them privately. These are national cultural relics.

It has been about a month since the blockade and protection. After more than a month of excavation, the archaeologists have finally seen the structure of the whole cellar:

The whole pit mouth is square, 1.63m long, 1.58m wide and 0.5m deep. According to the preliminary statistics, the coins unearthed in the cellar are about 1.5 tons, which are neatly layered and flat. They are basically copper coins connected by ancient straw ropes. The coins are well preserved as a whole, and most of the inscriptions are clear.

After the news was released, it quickly entered the national hot search list, making many people wonder where these ancient coins came from and why they appeared in Jiangsu?

In this regard, experts from Yancheng Museum said that these ancient coins were all hoarded in the Northern Song Dynasty. The ancient coins in the hoard include not only the Taiping Yuanbao and Daguan Tongbao of the Song Dynasty, but also the Kaiyuan Tongbao of the Tang Dynasty. The time span is very large, so it can be seen that the collectors at that time were not ordinary people.

Some friends may not know much about the cellar. In fact, it is the ancient people who sealed and treated the items and put them into the ground, cave or wine cellar in order to maintain the freshness or quality of something.

It is obvious that the ancient coin storage place discovered this time is the underground place specially excavated by the owner at that time to preserve money. Just looking at these coins, we can know that this place is absolutely rich.

Experts speculate that there should be more valuable items nearby, such as metal objects, porcelain, etc.

According to historical records, this area was the front line of the war between the Jin people and the Song Dynasty for a period of time in the Song Dynasty. Therefore, there are still barracks and ancient tombs, so the excavation area may continue to increase.

Obviously, if it is not unexpected, the whole area is well preserved, which should have rich historical and cultural connotation and important research value. It has great evidence support for understanding the real history of the Song Dynasty and the living conditions of people at that time.
